Welcome back to Shareables, the newsletter that makes you smile no matter how hard you try not to!

Hey everyone,

Happy Friday! We’re all about sharing news that will brighten your day, but today we’re sharing some news that just might brighten your night, too. Have you ever heard of the Draconid meteor shower? We wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't.

They haven't received the same glowing coverage as, say, the Perseid meteor shower, but it turns out that could be a mistake. While the Draconids aren't nearly as active on average as some other showers, they have been known to release the floodgates, so to speak, raining down as much as 1,000 meteors at a time. Now, that’s a show you wouldn’t want to miss!

In a relevant vein of unexpected marvels, a startup named Aquagga is turning heads and, seemingly, the tides of the battle against persistent pollutants. Nestled inside a mere 10-foot shipping container lies their “destroyer” of PFAS. The acronym stands for Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances- a group of synthetic chemicals that have notoriously earned the moniker "forever chemicals" due to their steadfast refusal to break down in the environment. It's a small but mighty stride towards cleaner, safer waters.

More watery happenings include the UK’s Wild Oysters Project. The project is orchestrating a subtle, yet profound, underwater revolution. By releasing 10,000 native oysters onto a man-made reef, they're crafting a new marine ecosystem and employing these natural water purifiers to silently safeguard our aquatic realms.

In other intriguing news, the ancient sands of Egypt have revealed elegantly preserved sealed wine jars in the tomb of Queen Merneith. Approximately 5,000 years old, these remnants of wine whisper tales of ancient vineyards, royal indulgences, and the sophisticated palates of civilizations past. Just an FYI, Queen Merneith is thought to be the very first Queen of Egypt.

While all of this is plenty of good news to tip our glasses to, we’re not done yet. Catch the most heartwarming bits of news we found this week below! ❤️

SMILES

Abigail Adjiri, a 7-year-old girl from Ghana, has captured hearts with her remarkable dancing skills despite being deaf.

Winning the “Talented Kidz” competition, a platform for children between 7 and 12 years old, Abigail demonstrated not just her ability to dance, but also her capacity to overcome challenges. Unlike most dancers, she doesn’t move to the beat of the music but instead dances to the vibrations she feels with her feet, showcasing her impressive and precise moves.

The young dancer's story took a heartwarming turn when her mother shared their goal of acquiring a hearing aid for Abigail during an appearance on “Onua Showtime with Nana Ama McBrown,” a popular talk show in Ghana. The financial hurdle was significant, but they were hopeful that somehow, help would come their way.

And indeed, their story touched hearts far beyond their own country, reaching all the way to New York.

A woman named Joyce, originally from Ghana but residing in New York, was deeply moved when she heard Abigail’s story. Without hesitation, she reached out to McBrown and generously donated $5,000 for the hearing aid and an additional $400 for insurance, ensuring that it could be replaced or repaired if necessary.

Joyce’s incredible act of kindness changed Abigail’s world. The joy that unfolded was immeasurable when Abigail and her mother returned to McBrown’s show, this time with Abigail proudly showcasing her new hearing aid.

The room was enveloped in pure happiness as she interactively engaged with the audience and McBrown, counting from one to ten and answering questions with her newfound hearing.

This story, punctuated by Joyce's kindness and Abigail’s triumphant spirit, shows that goodness and positivity can be found in every corner of the world!

ANIMALS

Amidst the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Grand Canyon, a drama unfolded that showcased the epitome of bravery and compassion. Cassie, a self-proclaimed “New York cowgirl,” found herself thrust into a rescue mission, becoming an unexpected savior for a horse and its rider in a precarious situation.

Her TikTok video, which garnered over a million views, narrates a tale of danger and resolve as she navigated a steep, unstable slope with unflinching determination to reach the distressed horse.

The rescue was both a physical endeavor and an emotional journey. It was fraught with challenges and turmoil.

Each step Cassie took on the unstable terrain was a delicate balance between urgency and caution, her determination unwavering as she made her way to the stranded creature. The act of removing the horse’s riding gear became a gentle, reassuring interaction between human and animal. Cassie’s calm demeanor provided an air of solace amidst the chaos.

Meanwhile, the rider, despite sustaining injuries, showcased a remarkable strength that boosted everyone’s resilience and hope. Her journey towards recovery, buoyed by prayers and well-wishes, became a parallel narrative intertwined with Cassie’s daring rescue.

It spoke volumes about the strength of the human spirit, demonstrating how empathy and quick thinking during critical moments can turn a perilous situation into a story of hope and collective strength.

Cassie’s actions extended beyond the physical rescue, igniting a spark of unity and collective strength. It highlights the profound connections and unspoken bonds that link us all.

The horse, too, earned praise for maintaining composure in a dicey situation, reciprocating Cassie’s calmness and effort. This incident, while harrowing, is remarkable in every sense of the word.

💭 QUOTE OF THE DAY

“There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy.”

― Robert Louis Stevenson

🗿 ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…

Did you know that on this day in 1945, Billy Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, and his pet goat Murphy were ejected from a Chicago Cubs' World Series game? Apparently, this was due to Murphy's unsettling “goatish” odor. It was a peculiar event that led to the infamous "Curse of the Billy Goat" in baseball history.

In his indignation, Sianis allegedly cursed the team, proclaiming, “The Cubs ain’t gonna win no more. The Cubs will never win a World Series so long as the goat is not allowed in Wrigley Field.” Indeed, what followed was a 71-year World Series drought for the Cubs.

The curse became a legendary tale of misfortune and near-misses for the team, symbolizing decades of frustration for Cubs fans. However, in a triumphant turn of events in 2016, the Cubs clinched the World Series title, ostensibly breaking the 108-year championship drought and the notorious curse.

That’s the story of how the Cubs' went from cursed underdogs to celebrated champions.
