SMILES

In the small town of Richmond, Texas, a sweet story is touching thousands of hearts.

Mary Summers, a lively 92-year-old lady, was facing a common yet daunting problem - car troubles.

When Mary's car started showing signs of wear, she did what anyone would do- she took it to her local tire shop. But what she expected to be a routine visit turned into something unimaginable.

Mary was hit with a heavy blow. All 4 tires needed replacing… to the tune of $600.

Like many of us, Mary couldn’t cough up such a hefty sum on the fly. As she contemplated replacing just one tire to lessen the financial strain, a remarkable twist of fate began taking shape.

Little did Mary know, there was a quiet observer in the shop, and his eyes and ears were on her. State Trooper Drew Stoner was in for a routine oil change and overheard Mary's predicament.

Moved by her situation, he discreetly stepped up to the counter, paid for all 4 of Mary's tires, and left as quietly as he’d come. When the shop employee, Omar, informed Mary her tires had been paid for, her reaction was one of pure disbelief and joy.

When Mary finally met Trooper Stoner to express her gratitude, the encounter was incredibly heartwarming.

Overwhelmed by his kindness, Mary said, "I can hardly talk about it now because I want to cry."

The blessings pouring out on Mary didn’t stop there. Inspired by Stoner's act, Omar contributed his own gesture of goodwill. The video is an uplifting peak in a world of less-than-lovely news.

ANIMALS

Meet Rodney Holbrook, a retired postman turned wildlife photographer. Forget majestic hawks and playful foxes, though. His latest capture is much smaller and far more surprising: a tidy mouse!

It all started with a messy shed and a missing cheese sandwich.

Rodney noticed tools and trinkets mysteriously disappearing, only to reappear neatly organized the next morning. Intrigued, he set up a night vision camera to catch the culprit in action.

What he saw was pure magic. A tiny mouse, no bigger than your thumb, was industriously sorting clothes pegs, corks, and even nuts and bolts!

Rodney dubbed the meticulous critter "Welsh Tidy Mouse," and their unlikely partnership began.

But why the tidy-up spree? Rodney believes the mouse might be using the objects to stash away its precious nuts.

Whatever the reason, the little rodent is a master of organization, even tackling cable ties with impressive strength. Rodney, ever the curious scientist, admits to leaving out "challenges" for the mouse, just to see what it could handle.

"Ninety-nine times out of 100, the mouse will tidy up throughout the night," Rodney chuckled. "It is incredible, really, that they put them all back in the box. I think it's possible that they enjoy it!"

This isn't Rodney's first encounter with tidy rodents. Back in 2019, a friend's shed in Bristol had a similar mouse-powered makeover, even going viral!

"That one video went viral and reached people around the world," Rodney said, eyes twinkling. "So I can't believe here in Builth Wells we have had the same thing happen years later."

Could there be a secret society of tidy mice out there, keeping sheds and workshops in pristine order? One thing is certain, this video is a must-see for every animal lover out there!

💭 QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Sometimes the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn't mean to take.”

🗿 ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…

Did you know that on this day in 1894, a sneeze catapulted itself into cinematic history?

Yep, "Fred Ott's Sneeze" achieved a monumental milestone. Formally known as "Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze," the cinematically mundane moment became the first motion picture to receive a US copyright. Thus Fred Ott's nasal escapade was forever etched into the annals of film history.

“The Sneeze” took center stage at Thomas Edison's studio in West Orange, New Jersey, under the direction of William K.L. Dickson. As with most things, it’s not the act itself but the delivery that makes it so memorable.

Fred Ott, an Edison employee, stands before the camera. With a pinch of snuff, he readies himself for his moment in the spotlight. The camera rolls and in the blink of an eye, Fred unleashes a silent sneeze that has reverberated through the very fabric of early cinema.

This flick showcased the magic of motion pictures, glamorizing an ordinary sneeze into an extraordinary event.

Before that…

1431 - Drama ensues in Rouen, France, as the trial of Joan of Arc begins, setting the stage for a historic showdown amidst the tension-filled English occupation.

1493 - Christopher Columbus lays eyes on manatees for the first time. Charmingly, he mistook these gentle giants for mythical mermaids in the vast ocean blue.

1768 - London’s abuzz as Philip Astley unveils the world's first modern circus, transforming equestrian prowess into a spellbinding spectacle that redefined entertainment.
