Karin, born in Germany in 1939, had made a life in New York, raising her daughter with fierce determination. "My daughter gave me a reason to live," Karin explains, underscoring the strength of their bond.

After her husband's passing, the distance between Karin and her daughter's family in Los Angeles became a challenge. Without the company of her other half, the distance was making her unbearably heartsore.

The creative solution? Convert the cluttered garage into a warm and welcoming home for Karin, ensuring she could be close to her loved ones.

With the help of their architect neighbors, Pierre and Carmen, the family transformed the 300-square-foot garage. Now, it’s a bright and functional living space.

The design was tailored to Karin's tastes. It included a skylight, a practical bathroom, and a special spot for her cherished record collection.

Construction kicked off in June 2020, and every inch was meticulously planned to make the space feel open and inviting. Despite some challenges like laying a new foundation, the family’s determination never wavered.

The end result, a home affectionately named "Grandma’s Glam Garage," exceeded the initial budget, but it was worth every penny. Karin's new home enhanced the property value while bringing immense joy to the family.

"Having her here, kind of like as the bookend of her life… I think she would probably say her life started with me and now she’s ending it with me. It’s so powerful and so important,” her daughter beautifully summed up their new living situation.

Living in Los Angeles has revitalized Karin, allowing her to bond closely with her grandchildren and relish her golden years surrounded by family. And judging by the video tour of her space, she’s doing it in style!

ANIMALS

Can you imagine glancing out into your backyard and spotting a bear lounging on your hammock?

This delightful yet startling scene happened in Vermont. Homeowner Noah DW caught a bear enjoying his hammock while another bear was watching nearby.

The sight was a mix of amusement and concern. Noah found the scene both funny and troubling. While it was entertaining to see a bear act so human-like, he was mindful of the potential dangers.

Allowing bears to get too comfortable around human dwellings could lead to risky encounters. After capturing enough footage, Noah decided it was time to scare the bears away for everyone's safety.

Living in a "very active bear basin," as Noah describes, means frequent bear sightings are a part of life. However, a bear showing off its impressive balance on a hammock is a new and remarkable experience.

"To be honest, it was pretty impressive that he didn't fall off or she didn't fall off of the hammock,” Noah recalled.

The bear's familiarity with the hammock suggested it might have had similar encounters before, adding a touch of humor to the situation. Despite the humorous aspect, Noah knew the importance of keeping bears at a safe distance.

He scolded the bears, urging them to leave. Initially reluctant, the bears eventually retreated to the woods. Noah’s video of his bear visitors sneaking a swing in his hammock is making its rounds on the internet and it’s one of the cutest videos you’ll see!
