Man Digs 700+ Rare Coins From Cornfield

Imagine a Kentucky farmer's astonishment after unearthing 700+ Civil War-era coins while toiling in his cornfield.

That’s exactly what happened to this man while he was turning soil. The astonishing find, known as the "Great Kentucky Hoard," consists of hundreds of U.S. gold pieces minted between 1840 and 1863, alongside a sprinkling of silver coins.

The anonymous discoverer can be heard in his video exclaiming, "This is the most insane thing ever: Those are all $1 gold coins, $20 gold coins, $10 gold coins," as he films the relics emerging from the soil.

He marveled at the collection of historical gold coins.

The Numismatic Guaranty Co. (NGC) authenticated the coins, and GovMint swiftly sold them. The hoard is primarily made up of gold dollars, alongside 20 $10 Liberty coins and eight $20 Liberty coins. The rarest gem is an 1863-P $20 1-ounce gold Liberty coin, one of which can fetch six figures at auction.

The treasure trove proudly hosts 18 of these rarities.

NGC states that these $20 Liberty coins, circulated from 1850 to 1907, were minted following the California gold rush. Their rarity is compounded as they lack the phrase "In God We Trust," added post-Civil War in 1866.

What's truly intriguing is the story this hoard narrates about America's turbulent past.

Conflict archaeologist Ryan McNutt from Georgia Southern University hypothesizes that the hoard could have been buried to protect it from Confederate John Hunt Morgan's 1863 raid. Numerous affluent Kentuckians allegedly secreted vast sums into the earth to prevent Confederate theft.

These rumored hoards still remain undiscovered to this day.

McNutt suggests that the federal currency in the hoard might indicate clandestine dealings with the federal government, transactions best hidden from Confederate raiders. Many Civil War-era Americans became adept at hiding away their valuables in a time when a raid might befall them at any moment- on both sides of the war.

Sadly, most historical artifacts found on private lands are sold or collected without archaeological guidance, leading to a loss of valuable information, McNutt laments. These hoards offer a fleeting glimpse into the past.

While there's no legal obligation to report private land finds to archaeologists, McNutt believes in the importance of education and outreach. He encourages landowners to engage with archaeologists, warning that bypassing them risks losing precious historical snapshots forever.

"As a conflict archaeologist, I find this loss of information particularly frustrating," he said. "It is entirely up to the landowner," he continued, but not sharing such finds with archaeologists means "it's a snapshot of the past, lost forever."

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with this unbelievable treasure hoard.

Cat Saves Man's Life After Crazy Fall

A furry feline played a crucial role in a rescue operation and now he’s being hailed a hero.

It all took place on private property in El Dorado County, Calif., according to CBS Sacramento.

One man out viewing the beauty of a seasonal waterfall took an unfortunate 30-foot tumble down into the Webber Creek drainage basin. What he didn’t anticipate was that fate had an unlikely ally in store.

His family noticed his absence and immediately sought assistance from a neighbor to find him. Little did they know, their beloved outdoor cat held the key to the rescue.

The cat started calling.

Amidst the search, a symphony of meows filled the night air and caught the attention of the man's wife and their helpful neighbor. Their feline companion quickly became the herald of hope, guiding them unerringly toward the exact spot where their loved one lay in distress.

Rescue teams swiftly arrived and discovered the stranded man submerged in a few inches of water. With utmost care, they carried him approximately 400 yards to a waiting ambulance.

The injured man was then transported to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center by air, accompanied by prayers and well-wishes for his recovery.

Details regarding the man's current condition have not been disclosed, leaving us hopeful for a positive outcome.

In the meantime, let us appreciate the remarkable instincts and compassion exhibited by our four-legged friends, who remind us that even in the most challenging times, a touch of kindness can guide us home.
