OPTIMISM

At just 2 weeks old, most babies are just starting to open their eyes. But baby Blue from Byron Bay, Australia was already taking significant strides—she was already “potty trained.”

Montana Lower and Tom Linwood, Blue's parents, attribute this early milestone to a method they used called "elimination communication." It's all about tuning in to the baby's natural cues and responding quickly.

"Babies are born with absolutely no preconceived knowledge of how to go to the bathroom," Montana shared in their YouTube video, highlighting the essence of their approach.

The couple openly discuss their journey on their YouTube channel "On The Way". Here, they delve into the day-to-day challenges and triumphs of parenting.

Montana admits she was initially skeptical about whether elimination communication would work. However, she decided to commit fully for a day to see the results.

"It only took one day of taking it very seriously, really committing to notice cues, and bring Blue to the potty or the toilet," she said.

The result? Blue no longer needed diapers during the day. This method allows for ditching diapers early, but it's also about forming a deeper bond between parent and child.

"The biggest reason why we started taking Blue to the toilet at 2 weeks old is learning that being left to sit in a soiled diaper can add to shame and disassociation with our intimate areas — especially for girls. And it makes sense!" explained Montana.

This proactive approach sets a foundation for active engagement. As parents, they’re watching and responding to Blue’s needs in real time.

Blue's early potty training has intrigued parents worldwide. For those interested in how Montana and Tom achieved such an impressive feat with Blue, their full video provides some interesting insights.

Their willingness to go out on a limb has shown that sometimes, trying something unconventional can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

ANIMALS

When Kay first laid eyes on Patches, it was clear her life was about to get a lot bigger.

A hefty feline had captured her heart through a single photo sent by her daughter from an animal control officer. Kay didn't need to mull things over, this 42-pound cat needed a change now.

Patches nestled into Kay’s lap during their first encounter and the decision was made—she would help him reclaim his health. To get things in motion, she was allowed to bypass the usual adoption process.

Patches' arrival at home was the beginning of an incredible journey. Not just for Patches, but for Kay and her other pets, Bella the Yorkshire Terrier and Wesley the cat, as well.

Despite some initial territorial hisses from Wesley, the animals soon settled into a peaceful coexistence. For Patches, though, the challenges were just beginning.

His size greatly hindered his mobility, prompting Kay to rearrange her home to accommodate his needs better. With the help of her vet, Kay devised a rigorous weight management plan tailored to Patches’ needs.

As they focused on a balanced diet engineered for safe, gradual weight loss, the pounds began to peel off. Over the months, Patches' vitality and mobility visibly improved.

Then, Christmas came and he mustered the strength to climb onto a radiator cover. It was a feat that stirred his newfound agility and highlighted his transformation

Today, Patches continues to thrive, with his weight now down to about 25 pounds. Best of all, there’s no sign of diabetes or thyroid issues, but joint health remains a concern due to his previous weight.

The bond between Kay and Patches has only deepened through their shared journey. A journey which they’ve shared in a short video filled with playful, loving moments.

🗿 ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…

Did you know that on this day in 1932, the rousing chorus of "We Want Beer!" echoed through the streets of New York City?

The historic "We Want Beer!" parade turned out an impressive 100,000 demonstrators who marched the streets of Manhattan determined to voice their opposition to Prohibition.

People from all walks of life united to vocalize their desire to overturn the 18th Amendment. From political “big wigs” to housewives and working Joes, marchers wielded their signs and banners.

Their lively, colorful spectacle epitomized the popular and ever-growing discontent with the alcohol ban. This parade represented the passionate societal push against the restrictions imposed by Prohibition since 1920.

The sheer scale of the crowd and their exuberant display made it clear that the public was over having to hide one of its favorite pastimes.

This powerful demonstration catalyzed the movement that led to the ratification of the 21st Amendment in 1933, finally repealing 13 long years of Prohibition.

Now, that’s something that’s worth smashing glasses to a hearty chorus of “CHEERS!”

1607 - English settlers put down roots in Jamestown, unwittingly during the harshest drought in eight centuries, establishing the first permanent English settlement in America.

1804 - Tasked by Thomas Jefferson, explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark embark from St. Louis on a monumental trek to the Pacific Coast.

1878 - Vaseline, the wonder jelly, secures its place in medicine cabinets everywhere with U.S. Patent 127,568.

1938 - The silver screen lights up with "The Adventures of Robin Hood," featuring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, directed by Michael Curtiz and William Keighley.
