"I saw the men trying to lift the bus and it was clear to me that I also had to help." 💘
Welcome back to Faith & Joy, a 2x a week newsletter that makes you smile no matter how hard you try not to!
Hey everyone,
When's the last time you stopped to marvel at the sheer wonder that fills our universe? From the unfathomable vastness of the cosmos to the intricate workings of our minds, there's so much to be amazed by. The Orionid meteor showers, for instance, spout off a show of celestial magic each year and are set to dazzle our coming night skies.
Speaking of marvels, what could be more marvelous than growing a child? If you have, you may have heard the term 'pregnancy brain' before. Well, science now confirms that motherhood genuinely does reshape the brain. (Kudos to all the incredible, adaptable moms out there! 🧠💪)
And as long as there have been babies, there have likely been booties, too. Researchers have taken a dive deep into the closets of history with the discovery of a 2,200-year-old pair of booties found in an Austrian mine. Vintage chic, anyone?
Another separate historical twist has presented us with a coin worth far more than the silver it’s made of. The coin depicting Jesus Christ has been unearthed in Bulgaria. Truly a glimpse of the past!
Hopeful news also brews on the human front as one bank is restoring faith in the banking world by generously reimbursing a customer after a wretched scam. The bill they agreed to foot? A whopping $460K! Talk about having your back!
We’ve also been treated to a dose of warmth by a kind-hearted gentleman in Jacksonville. The man has gained recognition online after he was found spreading joy with flowers and uplifting, heartfelt signs reminding people that they do, in fact, matter. 🌸
Joyful art lovers will be tickled to know that a Bob Ross painting from his debut TV episode of The Joy of Painting has fetched a cool $10 million. Those happy trees sure are valuable!
To wrap things up on a chirpy note, did you know there’s a fun, simple way to repurpose that old wine bottle into a gravity bird feeder? This is an excellent way to keep something out of the landfill and make some feathery friends along the way! 🍷🐦

Loveable Stories 📰
WOW
In a remarkable display of unity and quick thinking, around 40 individuals came together to rescue an 18-year-old man in Berlin.
The young man was rushing to catch a bus that was already pulling away. In his pursuit, he tripped and, next thing he knew, he was pinned under its rear tire. Without missing a beat, the bus driver halted the vehicle and, with the combined strength of passengers and bystanders, they managed to lift the bus and free the trapped young man.
Frank Kurze, one of the brave volunteers, recounted the chaotic scene to German news channel N-TV:
“I saw the men trying to lift the bus, and it was clear to me that I also had to help lift the bus and try pull the young man from underneath.”
Nearby, medical professionals from a local center rushed to provide immediate assistance. Michelle Rueckborn was one such nurse who responded to the emergency.
“We were at work when we heard screams, and our boss looked out of the window and saw what had happened, and said ‘Take the doctor’s case and run,’” she shared.
While the young man was in a state of shock, he was fortunate to escape with only scrapes, bruises, and an arm injury. Sandra Grunwald, another attending nurse, mentioned, “He was responsive but very perplexed and didn’t know what was happening.”
Following the incident, he was promptly taken to a hospital for surgery. While N-TV reported his release, Berlin police have yet to confirm further details about his condition.
The Berlin police were so deeply moved by the collective effort, they lauded the rescuers as "heroes." Expressing their gratitude, they posted, “Thank you, Spandau, thank you, Berlin,” on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Grunwald, reflecting on the incident, said, “I think it’s nice that one can still more or less have trust in society.”

When a farmer purchases a steer for $10, there’s likely only so much he expects from it. One thing they likely don’t expect, though, is for said steer to turn into a record-shattering behemoth!
That's the story of Fred Balawender and his steer, Tommy.
Initially, Fred observed that Tommy was slightly larger than the average steer. However, as time passed, it became clear that Tommy was no ordinary bovine. By the age of 13, Tommy had grown to an astonishing height of 6 feet 1 inch and tipped the scales at 3,000 pounds!
The gentle giant began to overshadow his peers, turning heads and capturing hearts wherever he went. His daily diet? A staggering five gallons of grain, one and a half bales of hay, and water equivalent to two full bathtubs!
Yet, it's not just Tommy's size that's noteworthy.
His endearing personality sets him apart. Often described as the embodiment of a "gentle giant," Tommy exudes a calm and kind-hearted nature. Children, especially, are magnetically drawn to him, and he returns their love with his gentle ways.
Fred, Tommy's proud owner, affectionately remarked, “He’s like our pet. He’s just something to be proud of, and I really, really like the guy. He’s everybody’s friend up here. Everybody knows Tom.”
Tommy's local celebrity status was elevated even further when he was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "largest living steer" on the globe. This monumental achievement likely called for a celebration with a feast of Tommy's favorite treats.
From a modest $10 investment to a world-renowned gentle giant, Tommy's tale is a heartwarming reminder that life is full of unexpected joys!
Quote of the Day 💭
“My happiness comes from the kindness of those around me.”
On This Day In History…🗿
Did you know that on this day in history in September 1952, Charlie Chaplin embarked on a “6-month journey” that he wouldn’t be able to return from for 20 years?
What he believed would be a six-month trip to England (his first visit there in 21 years) turned into a decades-long exile. During his journey, the US Attorney-General James P. McGranery announced an inquiry into whether Chaplin should be allowed to re-enter the US, citing suspicions of his "anti-American" sentiments.
This unexpected turn of events transformed Chaplin's short trip for a film debut into a 20-year-long battle to return as a welcomed citizen to the United States. While Chaplin was in England, he clarified his political stance by asserting that he was not a Communist but someone who wished for "a roof over every man's head." Despite his clarifications, Chaplin would not return to the US until two decades later.
